They often try to convey important information in a very rigid, prescriptive manner. Often, essays follow the formula of trying to answer the question 'What is the biggest problem?' While this type of writing can be effective, if your goal is to communicate a well-rounded perspective, a different approach is more appropriate. Students who are enrolling in high school composition may want to consider creative nonfiction and novel writing courses instead.
